Watering Your Banana Plants

Excessive, continual watering of your newly planted banana plant can cause damage, so after initial planting, water only after new leaves appear. After that, you may need to water two or more times daily to keep the root ball moist and to accelerate maturity.

Once your plant is established and our Arizona temperatures are warming, regular deep watering is crucial. A good practice is to check the soil to see how dry or moist it is on a frequent basis, and then water accordingly. In essence, don’t let your plants dry out, but also don’t overwater them.

Be careful not to overwater in the winter, or when temperatures reach below 50°F. The plant will stop growing during the cooler Arizona climate, therefore it won’t demand as much water. As long as you don’t let the plant dry out, it should be just fine.

"If there is magic on this planet it is contained in water."
